Herzog on RED

Q: What about shooting digitally?

A: We used the RED camera for My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done. It's an immature camera created by computer people who do not have a sensibility or understanding for the value of high-precision mechanics, which has a 200-year history. It's terrible: Whenever you have to reboot the camera, it takes 4½ minutes or so. It drove me insane, because sometimes something is happening and you can't just push the button and record it. An assistant cameraman said this camera would be ideal if we were filming the National Library in Paris, which has been sitting there for centuries. But everything that moves faster than a library is a problem for the RED.

Not saying I agree with him, just an interesting and honestly not surprising response from a purist like Herr Herzog who I'm sure shot digitally only for budgetary reasons.

New Photo Uploads

I am loving these Stills Galleries in Squarespace. I just uploaded some new stuff from yesterday's photo adventure. I got my girlfriend a Nikon D3000 entry level DSLR for Christmas and we're having a lot of fun with it. I can't stand not having a camera anymore so I'm taking the plunge and getting a 7D.

This will be the package:

7D body with cards, batts, etc.

Canon 24-70 2.8L

Zacuto Z-Finder 2

IDC Follow Focus

Light weight Fluid Head Sticks. Probably a Miller of some sort but still spec-ing.

Can't wait to shoot some time lapse with this setup!

Scarlet Prototype Unveiled

Ted Schilowitz of RED was at CES and showed a 2/3" Scarlet Prototype, REDMote, 25mm RED Mini Prime, and RED Bomb EVF to Engadget. The product is apparently, "4-6 months from delivery."

Price for Complete 2/3" Scarlet Shooting Kit with Factory 8x Zoom is $4750. Pretty amazing price for a complete camera with a 2/3" chip..

There's an article, video, and stills gallery over at Engadget >>>
