Weisscam HS-2 Reel for 2011

Weisscam HS-2 Reel for 2011

2010 was a very Weissy year for me. Here are a few of my favorite shots from various projects I engineered. The Weisscam really is a great system for a lot of productions, especially those looking to walk away with edit friendly material at the end of the day. The video friendliness of it is good if you don't want to deal with de-bayering massive Phantom files but the down time in between takes as the image is recorded.. is it worth it? Not mention the loss of dynamic range cramming the raw sensor output into a 10 bit linearized stream. It's a toss up. Time lost on set is gained in post. Apples and oranges. We'll see how much these cameras even work once the Epic is out and shooting 225+ fps at high quality 2k. It's going to be an interesting world.

I'm no VFX guy but I'm always keen to pick up some new skills. Here's a little test comp I put together in After Effects CS5 using a few Weisscam HS-2 shots I did with DP Jon Miller. The composite is made up of 5 different shots all acquired at 2000 fps in 1080p. Gotta love winter.. There's just never time for these kind of extracurricular activities when it's super busy.

On a recent Sunday afternoon I randomly had a Weisscam HS-2, a macro lens, and some Hermit Crabs in my apartment. True story.

200 fps recording to ProRes HQ via AJA Ki Pro. 100mm Ultra Macro @ T2.8. Crabs were safely returned to the pet store after their voyage in space.

Music is Biosphere from the album Substrata. An ambient classic.
